10/11/2014 4:25:00 PM

Box Score Caldwell, N.J. – (10/11/2014) – After scoring the first two points of the match, Chestnut Hill College found themselves playing catch-up for the rest of the afternoon. Caldwell University quickly found their groove on their home court, sweeping the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-23, 25-21. Junior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) went over ten kills for a fifth consecutive match, and 16 time in 20 matches, with 13 kills on a solid .243 (13K-4E-37TA) hitting percentage.

A Caldwell University (12-7, 7-2) hitting error and a kill from freshman outside hitter Courtney Williams (Media, Pa.) got out to a Chestnut Hill College (10-10, 5-4) 2-0 lead in the opening set. But the Cougars would record the match's next four points, 4-2, before separating for a 15-5 advantage and an eventual 25-11 set-victory behind the play and service of senior outside hitter Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, Calif.). The second set was more competitive, separating by no more than six points, 17-11 Cougars, and knotting as late as 23-23 after a strong defensive stand from the Griffins backline of junior defensive specialists Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) and Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.), and sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Cougars captured the last two points of the set, 25-23, before edging the Griffins out in a 25-21 third-set final.

Nestoras scored 9.5 points by spotting four aces in addition to five kills, nine assists, ten digs, and a block. But it was freshmen, middle blocker, Narae Wadsworth (Reno, Nev.) and outside hitter Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) who led the Cougars with ten points apiece. Wadsworth offered five kills, three aces, and four blocks, while Auyong contributed nine kills, nine digs, and two blocks.

Biro effort was supported by 26 combined assists from sophomore setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) (16) and junior setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) (11). Sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) contributed seven kills, an ace, 13 digs, and three blocks to the Griffin effort while sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) hustled to 17 digs.

The women's volleyball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Tuesday, October 14, for a 7:00 p.m. CACC match against Georgian Court University.
