Lightning Gets Revenge, Tops Griffins in 3-0 CACC Final

Box Score Wilmington, Del. – (10/17/2014) – The Griffins recent Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) slide continued to a fourth match as Chestnut Hill College lost this evening's league competition at Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 (29-27, 27-25, 25-18). Sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) led the Griffins through the tightly-played, three-set battle with her second straight double-double performance, 15 kills and 13 digs.

The opening set never separated by more than three points as McBride powered Chestnut Hill College (10-12, 5-6) on a on a four-point run that gained the Griffins a 21-18 advantage. Captained by graduate defensive specialist Roni Peters (Leonardtown, Md.), Goldey-Beacom College (11-11, 5-7) issued a response, rallying for a 11-6 run that knotted the set at 25-25 before bringing them a 29-27 win. More competitive than the first set, the second set never separated by more than two points and did so as late as 24-22 Griffins before the Lightning rallied again for a 27-25 triumph. Fighting the momentum, junior defensive specialist Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) led the Griffin on a mid-set run in the third frame. Her serve evened the score at 14-14 and forced a timeout, but the refocused Lightning reclaimed the court and the match with an 11-4 run in a 25-18 set win.

Senior outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning effort with 18 kills, three assists, two aces, 22 digs, and a block. Junior setter Danielle Cipoletti (Scottsdale, Ariz.) supported her with five kills, 35 assists, 17 digs, and two blocks. Two others finished in double-digit digs while the Lightning combined for five team blocks and five aces.

McBride's double-double performance came with the Griffins only ace and was complemented by a 14-kill effort from junior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.). Junior setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) offered a kill, 35 assists, ten digs and a block while sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) led five Griffins in double-digit digs with 19.

The women's volleyball team looks to get back on track on Wednesday, October 22, when they return to Sorgenti Arena to host the University of the Sciences (USciences) for GriffinNation Night.
