Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/25/2014) – The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team suffered its first loss in five games this afternoon as visiting Bloomfield College picked up a crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) result with a 5-0 victory.
With its first setback at Victory Field #1 since falling 5-1 to Bloomsburg University on Tuesday, September 16, Chestnut Hill College (8-7-1, 7-3-1) dropped from first place to fourth in the CACC standings as Concordia College (N.Y.), Philadelphia University, and Dominican College (N.Y.) all earned three points on Saturday.
Bloomfield College (6-8, 6-4) improved its postseason chances with clinical efficiency in the offensive end, getting two goals each from junior forward Marin Jonjic (Podstrana, Croatia) and sophomore forward Amin Miller (Mondeville, Jamaica).
Jonjic scored twice in a span of 2:33 to stake the visiting Bears to an early 2-0 lead. First, the striker collected a deflection in the box and blasted a turnaround shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 17:04. Jonjic then converted a penalty kick at 19:37, 2-0.
The Bears stretched the margin to three with a goal just before halftime, when a cross deflected off a Griffin defender and past sophomore goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.). The ball was destined for the back of the net, but Miller raced forward to tap it in, 3-0 (44:28).
Miller struck again early in the second half, coverting on a chip pass from sophomore forward Shaunavon deSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) in the box, 4-0 (55:35). Bloomfield College added one more late tally for good measure, with senior midfielder Charles Crichlow (Brooklyn, N.Y.) heading in a cross from sophomore defender Gus Ortega (Tewsbury, N.J.) at the far post, 5-0 (83:57).
Jonjic recorded a game-high five shots in a 16-10 advantage for the Bears. Senior defender
Dominic Pernice (Lewis, De.) registered three to lead the Griffins.
Jackson made four saves in the setback (8-6-1), while sophomore Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France) stopped two shots to improve his mark to 6-3.
Chestnut Hill College heads across town on Tuesday, October 28, for its CACC finale, a critical showdown with intra-city rival Philadelphia University at 2:30 p.m. The Griffins and Rams are tied for second in the CACC with Dominican at 22 points, but those two have a game in hand on Chestnut Hill College. Concordia tops the table at 23 points with one league game remaining. A victory over Philadelphia University would guarantee the Griffins a home playoff game in the CACC championship tournament.
