Dominic Pernice (Lewis, De.), his first goal of the season, allowed the Griffins to extend the game, but Philadelphia University ultimately got the best of the fierce intra-city rivalry's latest installment.
Chestnut Hill College (8-8-1, 7-4-1) was hoping to garner a home playoff game in next week's CACC Championship Tournament with a victory. Instead, the Griffins will be forced to hit the road when the postseason begins on Tuesday, November 4. Chestnut Hill College will await the results of other games to determine its seed for the playoffs; the Griffins could fall anywhere from the fifth seed to the seventh seed. th time in 11 games and jumped into a tie for first place in the CACC with Dominican College (N.Y.).
The first half was relatively quiet, with the Rams holding a 3-2 advantage in shots. The Griffins, however, came closest to breaking the ice, as junior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) rattled the crossbar at 14:18. Philadelphia University finally ended the scoreless stalemate in the 62
nd minute, when junior forward Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md.) headed in a free kick by sophomore midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass.), 1-0 (61:10.). Pernice answered for the Griffins about 18 minutes later, sending a left-footed shot into the upper right corner of the net off a pass by senior midfielder
Michael Hester (Seaport, N.Y.) at 79:27, 1-1. Neither team manufactured much in the first extra session; Griffins sophomore goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) stopped the only shot on goal during the first 10 minutes of overtime. The Rams needed only 1:17 to net the game-winner in double overtime, with Chagonda scoring on a blast from the top of the box.
Philadelphia University held a 13-7 shot advantage, with Chagonda and Canela leading the way with three apiece. Senior goalkeeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.Y.) recorded one save (11-2-1).
