Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/24/2014) – It was different uniforms, but the same result - another win - for the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team, who defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Philadelphia University, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22), tonight for the first time since joining National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II in 2007. Wearing special uniforms as part of Get Real With Teal Night to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Griffins took over sole possession of first place in the CACC South Division with their fifth straight win.

Philadelphia University (3-7, 1-1) had gotten the best of Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 3-1) in each of the last 12 matchups prior to Wednesday night, but the Griffins showed their mettle right away, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-18. The first was tight throughout, with 10 ties and four lead changes, but Chestnut Hill College closed it out on a set-clinching kill by sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), who led all players with a season-high 18 kills.

The Griffins jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back in taking the second set, 25-18, but the Rams refused to go quietly, roaring back to capture a 25-16 decision in the third. Chestnut Hill College led by as many as four, 19-15, in the fourth set, but once again Philadelphia University mounted a rally, pulling even at 19-19 and again at 20-20. But the Griffins dug deep, winning five of the last seven points, the last two on attack errors by the Rams, to end their lengthy losing streak in the series and add to a historic winning stretch. The current five-game streak is the program's longest since joining NCAA Division II. Chestnut Hill College now sits atop the CACC South Division at 3-1, with Wilmington University (Del.) and Holy Family University right behind at 2-1.

Four Rams recorded double-digit kills, led by 12 from freshman outside hitter Erin Lyman (Algonquin, Ill.). Juniors Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill.) and Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y.) chipped in 11 kills apiece, and senior Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C.) posted 10. Manley and Lyman notched double-doubles with 19 and 15 digs, respectively, while junior Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa.) finished with a team-high 35 assists.

Fresh off a CACC Weekly Honor Roll mention, junior captain Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) turned in another sparkling performance, matching a season high with 16 kills on a .342 hitting percentage (16K-3E-38TA). Junior setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) fueled the Chestnut Hill College attack with a season-high 43 assists and, along with McBride, just missed a double-double with nine digs. Sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), the two-time defending CACC Defensive Player of the Week, led the Griffins with 16 digs, while juniors Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) added 12 digs apiece on the backline. Senior captain Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.) and freshmen Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Az.) and Melissa Shunk (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) each recorded five kills, with Shunk contributing three blocks.

Chestnut Hill College breaks from CACC play with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Adelphi University on Friday, September 26.
