Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) gave Chestnut Hill College a 1-0 lead just past the 30-minute mark (30:25), but a late strike forced overtime and propelled Shippensburg University to a 2-1 victory. Senior defender Josh Gannon (Chester, England) was the playmaker for the Raiders, providing an assist on each of the Shippensburg University goals.
In a tightly played opening 45:00, Chestnut Hill College (0-1) mustered the first successful attack when Amaya netted the season's first goal at 30:25, 1-0. The Griffins generated a string of strikes around the 25
th minute as a corner kick restart and a successive attempt from sophomore midfielder
Matthew McLeod (Sewell, N.J.) provided the pressure the allowed for Amaya's tally. The one-goal lead lasted through intermission, until the final minute as Gannon located junior defenseman Brooke Moyer (Souderton, Pa.) on a deep cross with just 16 seconds remaining (89:44). In overtime, Gannon found graduate midfielder Renaldo Garica (Chaguanas, Trinidad), who converted a kick from 30 yards out for the game-winning-goal at 98:42.
Senior forward Derrick Roy (Seven Valleys, Pa.) and Gannon provided the pressure for Shippensburg University (1-0) with nine combined shots. The Raiders totaled 23 shots in all, with four players recording at least three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Raimist (Woodsboro, Md.) made three saves in the winning effort (1-0).
