10/10/2015 3:36:00 PM

Box Score Bloomfield, N.J. - (10/10/2015) – Although Chestnut Hill College managed to recover from an own goal just 1:56 into this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Bloomfield College, evening the playing field on a goal by junior defender Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany) at 29:48, the Griffins' inauspicious start foretold a rough finish. The Bears scored three unanswered goals in the second half to run away with a 4-1 victory in a critical game between two teams jockeying for playoff positioning.

Bloomfield College (7-3-2, 5-2-1) junior forward Paulo Claudio (Sao Paulo, Brazil) received credit for the opening tally, which deflected in off a Chestnut Hill College (4-5-2, 3-3-2) defender less than two minutes in (1:56). Undeterred, the Griffins fought off the Bears' advances long enough to find level footing just shy of the half hour, when Fussen knocked in a corner kick by senior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia), making it 1-all at 29:48.

The home side kicked into high gear shortly after intermission. Claudio, who leads the CACC in goals (12) and points (29), finished from 20 yards out to give the Bears the lead for good, 2-1, at 51:11, and freshman midfielder Kevin Cubero (Sarchi, Costa Rica) knocked in a rebound to supply a 3-1 advantage just over four minutes later (55:20). Claudio added a third goal for good measure at the 88:21 mark, completing his hat trick with a rocket from just inside the 18-yard box to cap the scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) registered four saves to earn the victory (6-1-2) for Bloomfield College, which pulled into second place in the league table. The Bears held an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 6-2 corner kick edge.

Fussen, who attempted a team-high four shots, established a new career high with his third goal of the season. Amaya took two shots and collected his fourth assist of the campaign. Junior keeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) made four saves in defeat (4-4-2).

The men's soccer team has a week to regroup before a home match against Caldwell University, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17.
