3/22/2015 10:10:00 PM

Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/22/2015) – Playing their second match in as many days, Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a match versus Post University only 12 hours removed from falling to Bucknell University in. The Griffins got their retribution, evening their record at 5-5 and collecting the league win with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Eagles.

Chestnut Hill College (5-5, 1-0) got the jump on Post University (2-6, 0-1) with a swift sweep of doubles play. The Griffins first earned matching 8-3 wins at number three and number one doubles behind the respective combined efforts of junior transfer Henry Boyle (London England) and freshman Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France), and the freshmen duo of Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil). Seniors, Steven Say (Cannes, France) and Michael Humes (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) added the Griffins third doubles win of the round a little bit later by an 8-6 final.

The Eagles threatened the Griffins in singles play, bringing the match even with the first three singles points and challenging every step of the way in the remaining three. Number two singles fell first to the Eagles (6-2, 6-1) then number one (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) and number four (6-4, 6-4) singles. The Griffins rallying cry came at number five singles where senior Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) recovered from an opening 6-3 setback to return Chestnut Hill College to the lead with consecutive set wins of 7-6 (7-5) and 7-5. Senior Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) and Boyle played off the emotion and sealed Eagles fate with respective wins at number six (6-4, 6-3) and number three singles (7-5, 5-7, 6-4).

The men's tennis team continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Monday, March 23; their third match in three days, with a 3:30 p.m. match against #4 Concordia College (NY).
