Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/21/2015) – Taking the court for the first time in nearly a month, Chestnut Hill College met Bucknell University at Green Valley Country Club, safe from the early spring cold and snow. The Bison and Griffins battled for over six hours with Bucknell University walking away the victor, 8-1.
Bucknell University (6-6) started off their win over Chestnut Hill College (4-5) with a sweep of doubles play. The Bison first defeated freshmen
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) in the top team flight by an 8-4 margin. Junior transfer
Henry Boyle (London England) and freshman
Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) were the next to fall, losing number three doubles 8-2. Seniors,
Steven Say (Cannes, France) and
Michael Humes (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) gave a better fight at number two doubles, but still came away empty handed in a 9-8 (8-5) final.
The Bison sealed their victory with three wins at the top of the singles docket. They first took number ones singles from sophomore
Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 6-1, 6-0, and then proceeded to wins at number three singles (6-2, 6-1) and number two singles (6-3, 6-3). Ducretot broke the shutout with his 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 triumph at number five singles, but the Bison continued the stampede on wins at number four (2-6, 6-1, 10-7) and number six (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) singles.
The men's tennis team looks to make up for lost time with another match tomorrow, Sunday, March 22, when they return to campus to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 12:00 p.m. match against Post University.
