Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/13/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team challenged Concordia College (NY) this afternoon in a matchup of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) heavyweights. Unfortunately, the #6 Clippers flexed their muscles in a nationally ranked rendezvous, sweeping the 49
th-ranked Griffins, 9-0, to claim another regular-season league crown and snap the home side's seven-match winning streak.
Freshman
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) was the top challenger for Chestnut Hill College (13-7, 4-1), as the rookie was involved in both of the day's most competitive contests. He teamed with classmate
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) to push the top Concordia College (14-4, 5-0) doubles pairing – the fourth-ranked duo in the country – to an 8-6 decision, delaying the visitors' run.
After the Clippers, winners of five consecutive CACC championships, controlled the second through sixth singles courts, dropping two games or less in four of those matches, Bocaletto nearly spoiled the shutout with a valiant effort at number one. Opposite freshman Jui Mao (Taipeo, Taiwan), who came in with the #20 individual standing in Division II, Bocaletto captured the first set, 6-4. However, Mao responded to take the second set, 6-1, and eked out an 11-9 triumph in the third-set tiebreaker to polish off the 9-0 final.
The men's tennis team is right back on the courts tomorrow, April 14, for a CACC date at intra-city rival Philadelphia University. First serve for the Griffins' league finale is set for 3:30 p.m.
