Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/15/2015) – Gearing up for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament, Chestnut Hill College visited a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I neighbor in St. Joseph's University for an afternoon match. The Hawks took two of three doubles matches and four of six singles flights to defeat the Griffins by a 5-2 spread. Freshman
Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) was fortunate to secure two wins as he partnered with senior
Steven Say (Cannes, France) for an unrewarded 8-2 win at number two doubles before earning one of the Griffin points with his 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 10-5 triumph at number five singles.
The pinnacle of the afternoon came on conclusion of the number three doubles decision. There, senior
Michael Humes (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and junior
Henry Boyle (London, England) landed on the unfortunate end of an 8-7 (7-1) final. It left the match in the St. Joseph's University (9-8) favor as the Hawks added to the 1-0 doubles advantage with singles wins at number one (6-4, 7-6 (7-3)), number two (6-2, 6-0), number three (6-2, 6-3) and number six singles (6-2, 6-1). Humes and Ducretot added Chestnut Hill College's (14-8) other two points with their respective wins at number four and number five singles. Both were had-fought victories as Humes won the fourth individual flight 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, and Ducretot the fifth flight, 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 10-5.
The men's tennis team will play in the second of two CACC Semifinal matches on campus on Saturday, April 18, (10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) as Chestnut Hill College serves as host for the two-day CACC Championship Tournament.
