Griffins Finish Off Two-Day CACC Victory Over Devils

4/9/2015 9:06:00 PM

Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/9/2015) – When the door closed on the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team's scheduled match with Concordia College (NY), a window opened for the Griffins to complete yesterday's suspended match with University of the Sciences (USciences) this afternoon. After the Griffins swept doubles a day ago, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals flip-flopped home-court advantages as the Devils traveled to the Hill to complete singles play. Chestnut Hill College, still officially the visitor, made quick work of USciences with six pro-set victories to finish off a 9-0 win, the Griffins' fifth in as many contests.

Chestnut Hill College (11-6, 4-0) managed to procure a 3-0 lead on Wednesday, as freshman Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) coasted to an 8-1 decision at first doubles. Junior Henry Boyle (London, England) and senior Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) matched them out of the third flight, while seniors Steven Say (Cannes, France) and Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) prevailed, 8-2, at number two before play was suspended.

With the Griffins' scheduled match against the Clippers postponed, the teams decided to settle the score, this time at Chestnut Hill College. The home side enjoyed the familiar surroundings, capturing all six singles matches in pro sets. Say and Boyle posted 8-0 shutouts at second and fourth singles, respectively, while Humes (8-2 at third), senior Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico), 8-3 at fifth, and junior Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.), 8-4 at sixth, emerged victorious shortly after. Bocaletto received the sternest challenge in the top singles flight, but the rookie pulled through with a 9-7 decision to secure the sweep.

The men's tennis team will take part in the Bloomsburg Duals this weekend; the Griffins meet Roberts Wesleyan College for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match tomorrow, April 10, before the tournament begins with a 5:30 contest against the host Huskies.
