Williams-Mulesa Secures Century Win As Griffins Sweep Cougars

9/23/2015 8:48:00 PM

Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/23/2015) – Doing her part in a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Caldwell University, senior captain Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) earned her 100th career win today with an 8-0 triumph at number two doubles. The Griffins gave the Cougars little chance, as only junior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) was slowed to a three-set win in the top singles flight.

The victory gives the Griffins league wins on back-to-back days while Williams-Mulesa becomes the first Chestnut Hill College (3-0, 2-0) woman to reach the 100-win plateau since Morgan Oechsle '15 booked her 100th win during the 2013 CACC Championship. Doubles play moved quickly as senior Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and freshman Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) led off with an 8-0 win at number three doubles, only to be followed close behind by Williams-Mulesa and sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany), who earned the Griffins' second point and secured the milestone with an 8-0 win at number two doubles. Josso and senior Axé Owens (Trenton, N.J.) completed the doubles sweep with their 8-4 win at number one doubles.

Wins kept coming in singles play for Chestnut Hill College, who only staggered in the top individual flight. But the Cougars had to wait all the way until the end to get a glimpse, as Bellon won the first point of singles play at number six singles, 6-0, 6-0. Next was Craskey at number five singles by the same final, 6-0, 6-0. Owens triumphed 6-1, 6-0, at number four singles before Scholtze extended the Griffin lead to 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two singles. Williams-Mulesa made it 8-0 and left her career win-total at 101 with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at number three singles, leaving Josso to rally from a 4-6 opening set loss with wins of 6-3, and 10-0.

Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team returns to action next week on Wednesday, September 30, when they welcome Goldey-Beacom College to campus for a 4:00 p.m. CACC match.
