Box Score Lyndhurst, N.J. - (9/26/2015) – After a promising 3-1 start, a four-game skid has left Chestnut Hill College at 3-5 overall and 1-4 in early Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. Their latest struggle came this evening at Felician College, where six different Griffins recorded a shot in a 21-6 shot deficit that empowered the Golden Falcons for the only two goals in a 2-0 final.
The opening half was a much more competitive frame as Felician College (3-3, 3-1) narrowly outshot Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 1-4) 3-2 in a scoreless period. The Griffins were the initial aggressor, drawing an offside penalty at 1:31, corner kicks at 6:16 and 10:17, and another offside call at 16:56. But their chances were fruitless and after the 25-minute mark the momentum turned in the home team's favor with the Golden Falcons issuing a series of shots that demanded two saves from senior goalkeeper
Kayla Reno (Cantonsville, Md.) and a responsorial string of corner kicks from senior midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.). Nonetheless, the contest remained scoreless heading to the second 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons came out with more fight in the second half, outshooting the Griffins 18-4 in the period and scoring significant goals at 58:08 and 76:10. A flurry of shots after the 48-minute mark broke the Griffin defenses as junior midfielder Stephanie Heese (Lincoln, Park, N.J.) finished a pass from fellow junior midfielder Azra Buljko (Hackettstown, N.J.) to the inside of the left post for a 1-0 (58:08) advantage. The spread increased to 2-0 at 76:10, when Buljko converted a penalty kick for insurance. A fleeting attempt from freshman midfielder
Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Griffins' final chance at reprisal, but it soared high of its target, leaving the Golden Falcons to the CACC win.
Junior defenseman
Annalyse Culp (Clayton, N.J.), sophomore forward
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.), sophomore forward
Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.), freshman midfielder
Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.), Spinuzza, and O'Toole each took a shot for the Griffins. Meanwhile, Reno made eight saves in the loss (2-5).
The women's soccer team returns to Victory Field #1 on Tuesday, September 29, looking to reverse their fortune in a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest versus Wilmington University.
