Griffins Plan Military Appreciation Day For Second Home Sprint Football Game

9/29/2015 3:50:00 PM

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/29/2015) – This Sunday, October 4, the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics would like to invite all military personnel to the second sprint football home game versus Mansfield University for a Military Appreciation Day. Admission to the 12:00 p.m. Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) game will be free for all servicemen and servicewoman with their military ID card.

During halftime, the Griffins will recognize Joseph Starner, the father of Taylor Starner, a sophomore human services major at Chestnut Hill College. Joseph is a former airman of the United States Air Force who recently just retired in July after 22 years of service. The Griffins will also recognize all other service members, veterans, and active duty, in the stands by allowing them to stand and receive the recognition they deserve.

In collaboration with the Chestnut Hill College Activities Team (CHAT), Starner and crew will pass out ribbons to members of GriffinNation upon entrance to the Plymouth Whitemarsh Football Stadium and donation buckets will be passed around to help raise money for servicemen and women who have had to endure Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

According to mayoclinic.org, PTSD is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event, either through experience or witness. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as, uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Getting effective treatment after PTSD symptoms develop can be critical to reduce symptoms and improve function.

Post-game, all are invited to Brittingham's of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, "The Official Restaurant of GriffinNation", for Coach Pearson's postgame interview with ESPN Williamsport, who will be providing a live audio broadcast of the Griffins' games throughout the season.
