11/12/2016 5:17:00 PM

Box Score Wilmington, Del. - (11/12/2016) – Chestnut Hill College closed the 2016 regular season in grand fashion this afternoon, battling Goldey-Beacom College in a roller coaster match that saw the Griffins pull away late in the first set, 25-17, only to lose the second set, 25-20. The Scarlet and Gold then decisively won the third set, 25-11, before the Lightning forced a fifth set with their 25-22 victory in the fourth frame. Fortunately, the Griffins were on point in the finale, punishing Goldey-Beacom College 15-2 for the 3-2 (25-17, 20-25, 25-11, 22-25, 15-2) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory.

Senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) eclipsed Rachel Biro '16 for the all-time kill mark (1,194 kills) with her third successful strike of the opening set. It was her second that provided Chestnut Hill College (13-15, 11-8) a 14-12 advantage. The Griffins never looked back from there, riding the serve of freshman defensive specialist Kara Turtzer (La Habra Heights, Calif.) to an 18-12 lead before securing the 25-17 (1-0) win. Goldey-Beacom College (11-15, 6-13) struck back in the second stanza, leading a majority of the way in a 25-20 (1-1) final. Senior outside hitter Grace McCarthy (Middletown, Del.) was nearly unstoppable with nine kills on a .818 (9K-0E-11TA) hitting percentage. But the Lightning were off their mark early in the third set, allowing the Griffins to dominate the frame. Chestnut Hill College established a 13-3 advantage on a Turtzer ace and gradually grew their advantage for a 25-11 (2-1) win. Unfortunately, Goldey-Beacom College bounced back as the Lightning used a couple of Griffin miscues to separate from a 20-20 stalemate and three closing kills from junior middle hitter Jada Canteen (Newark, Del.) to knot the match with a 25-22 (2-2) victory. The deciding set was just that. Chestnut Hill College allowed only two Lightning points in the period, grabbing a 7-0 advantage on a pair of kills senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) and running away with a 15-2 triumph on the serve of freshman outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.).

McCarthy led the Lightning with 24 kills on a .293 (24K-7E-58TA) hitting percentage, an ace, and 20 digs. Canteen scored 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) offered 13 kills, 11 digs, and two blocks in supporting roles. Sophomore setter Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, Va.) made 46 sets, an ace, 11 digs, and block.

In the end, three Griffins recorded double-digit kills. Koehler was the highest among them with a dozen. She also led the Scarlet and Gold's .254 (51K-15E-142TA) team hitting percentage with a .500 (12K-1E-22TA) efficiency rating in addition to scoring seven blocks in a 17.5-point effort. Sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) fueled the offense with six kills and 36 assists while also contributing 10 digs and four blocks in an eight-point performance. Senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) led five Griffins in double-digit digs. She hustled to 28 in addition to providing an assist and scoring an ace.
