Griffins Win Sunday Sets at Bloomsburg Duals

Box Score | Bloomsburg, Pa. - (4/10/2016) – Heading to the final stretch of their 2015-2016 regular season schedule, Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis team visited Bloomsburg University for respective dual matches against the hosting huskies and Kutztown University. The Griffins women opened the snow-shortened weekend invitational with a 9-0 triumph over the Golden Bears while the men enjoyed a 6-3 afternoon victory over Bloomsburg University.
 
Chestnut Hill College (13-7) won their first two points against Kutztown University (3-10) at number two and number one doubles by matching 8-1 finals. Freshman Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) and senior Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) were the last to win their doubles match, but they did so in shutout fashion with a perfect 8-0 victory.
 
The Golden Bears did not provide much opposition in singles play either as the Scarlet and Gold only surrendered point at number one and number six singles. Sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Hamburg, Germany) was the first Griffins to finish with her 6-0, 6-0, number two singles victory setting the pace for the round. Her win was followed by a matching 6-0, 6-0, number four singles with from senior Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) and a 6-1, 6-1, number one singles triumph by junior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France). Senior Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and her classmate, Craskey, also scored respective 6-0, 6-0, wins at number three singles and number five singles. Junior Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) collected the last Griffin point with her 6-1, 6-0, win at number six singles.
 
The Chestnut Hill College (8-5) men were also victorious with freshman Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) recording the clinching point at number two singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Respective wins of 8-6 and 9-8 (7) at number one and number three doubles brought the Griffins back from an initial deficit as Bloomsburg University (4-7) scored the match's first point at number two doubles, 8-5.
 
In the singles ranks, Griffin wins at number one singles (6-3, 6-2) and number five singles (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) came courtesy of sophomore Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and freshman Lucas Abe (Duderstadt, Germany), respectively. After an unfortunate 6-4, 6-4, Husky win at number three singles, it was Kohler's 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, number two singles success that sealed the deal. Sophomore Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) recorded the last point for the Scarlet and Gold with his 5-7, 6-2, 6-0, triumph at number four singles.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team plays next on Friday, April 15, when they join the men for a 12:00 p.m. match against Queens College. The Griffin men play a couple of matches before that; the first is a 12:00 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match versus Bloomfield College on Wednesday, April 13.
