Box Score Flushing, N.Y. - (9/21/2016) – A scoreless first half set the stage for a dramatic conclusion for today's men's soccer contest at Queens College, where Chestnut Hill College earned their first win of the season on a converted free kick by junior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) at 52:37. The Griffins overcame an 18-11 shot differential - 12-5 in the second half - using an opportunistic Knight foul to seize the upper hand early in the second half.
Each side felt out the opposition in the first half, exchanging assaults for the opening 45 minutes. Queens College (3-2-2) took the first shots of the second half, but the first met Chestnut Hill College (1-5) senior goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) and the second went wide. The Knights' effort were answered just minutes later, when Casaletto made use of a restart by putting the free kick to the left corner of the home goal (1-0). Queens College immediately stepped up their aggression, firing five shots before the next Scarlet and Gold Missile was launched. Fortunately, Jackson and the Chestnut Hill College defense was there at every turn to stop or force the home shots off target and preserve the victory.
Sophomore midfielder Andras Breuer (Budapest, Hungry) led the Knights with seven shots. In goal, senior James Brostowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (3-2-1) made one save.
Junior forward
Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) led the Griffins in shots with four and sophomore forward
Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) offered three more, but it was the one attempt by Casaletto that made all the difference. Jackson (1-5) made seven saves while surpassing assistant coach
Michael Goldstein '13 for the program's all-time shutout mark (13).
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Sunday, September 25, when they visit Dominican College for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
