Kutztown, Pa. - (10/15/2017) – For the second straight season, the Chestnut Hill College women's bowling team began their year at Kutztown University's Bud Whitman Memorial. The Griffins scored their only win (1W-8L) of the two-day tournament in an 857-843 day-one victory over Medaille College. The Scarlet and Gold earned their win over the Mavericks in Saturday's Baker competition, where they placed 11th among 19 teams with 4,349 total pins. Despite 0-5 standing, Chestnut Hill College followed the effort with a 4,377-pin Sunday to rank 14th out of 19 in the Tournament round.

Chestnut Hill College (1-8) was challenged by St. Francis College – Brooklyn, Medaille College, Caldwell University, and St. Francis University during Saturday's Bakers play. The Griffins first lost to a tough Terrier squad by an 880-872 final, then recovered with their win over Medaille College. The next match, opposite the Cougars, saw the Scarlet and Gold score their high Baker game of 235. Unfortunately they lost to Caldwell University in a narrow 939-932 end. The last Saturday contest was against the Red Flash, who defeated Chestnut Hill College by a 1,050-879 spread.

Sophomore Rebeccah Edelman (Oakford, Pa.) offered a team-high 19.9 frame average, barely missing all-tournament placement. Freshman Kristina Scimone (Gibbsboro, N.J.) supported Edelman's effort with her 17.8 frame average.

The Traditional round placed the Griffins opposite Wilmington University, Youngstown State University, St. Peter's University, Duquesne University, and LIU Brooklyn. Unfortunately, Chestnut Hill College was unable to find success in any of the five matches, suffering a 903-785 loss to the Wildcats, a high-scoring 1,025-1,000 loss to the Penguins, a 900-833 loss to the Peacocks, a 956-910 loss to the Dukes, and a 960-849 loss to the Blackbirds.

Edelman bowled well in the Traditional round as well, but it was Madison Gibson (Howell, N.J.), who averaged a team-high 207.25 (829 pins/4 games) game average. Gibson provided the Griffins' best games against St. Peter's University (228), and LIU Brooklyn (209), but she was also one of three Griffins to score over 200 – junior Kara Wireman (Telford, Pa.) rolled a 225 and freshman Laura Oliver (Bayville, N.J.) a 225 - in the match with Youngstown State University (209). Edelman provided high scores against Wilmington University (204) and Duquesne University (199) and averaged 182.4 (912 pins/5 frames).

The Chestnut Hill College women's bowling team competes next on Friday, October 27, when they welcome competitors to Devon Lanes for the second Griffin Invitational.
