Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/10/2018) – A sweep of doubles play by University of the Sciences (USciences) left Chestnut Hill College to rally in the singles round of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. Unfortunately, the Devils were able to clinch victory before respective number six (6-3, 6-0) and number two singles (6-3, 6-1) from freshman
Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) and junior
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) broke their shutout in an eventual 5-2 final.
USciences (5-4, 4-2) took the doubles round in reverse order, winning the third flight 6-0, the second flight 6-3, and the first flight 6-4. In the singles round, the Devils secured their win over Chestnut Hill College (2-4, 2-4) with successive wins in the fifth (6-0, 6-0), fourth (6-1, 6-0), and third (6-0, 6-2) flights. Vassalluzzo broke up the shutout with her 6-3, 6-0, win at number six singles. Broville followed with a 6-3, 6-1, win at number two singles. The Devils made the final margin 5-2 with a 6-2, 6-2, closing win at number one singles.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Friday, October 12, when they visit Jefferson for a 3:30 p.m. match.
