Flushing, N.Y. – (10/11/2018) – Posting their third .300-plus hitting performance of the season (.329, 33K-7E-79TA), Chestnut Hill College completed their non-conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-10) victory at Queens College. Freshman right side
Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) recorded a team high 10 points (9 kills, 1 ace) and three others recorded at least seven points thanks to 26 assists from senior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.). In addition to their efficient hitting, the Griffins also recorded a dozen (12) aces, which is their fifth double digit ace performance of the season.
Queens College (1-18) scored the first three points of the match and led Chestnut Hill College (6-15) by a 7-4 margin early in the first set, but an eight-point run on the service of junior libero
Janie Green (Hayes, Va.) allowed the Griffins to recover for a 13-7 edge and force the Knights into a timeout. The break did not offer Queens College any solace, as the Scarlet and Gold scored 12 of the next 16 points to claim the opening frame by a 25-11 margin (1-0). The Knights led again at the start of the second set, 6-1. This time Sutton's serve rallied the Griffins, who tied Queens College at 7-7 and eventually separated for a 16-11 lead before pacing the Knights to a 25-19 conclusion (2-0). Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.), and junior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) killed three balls apiece and freshman defensive specialist
Kerri Sullivan (West Brandywine, Pa.) spotted three aces in a dominant 25-10 end (3-0).
Senior outside hitter Leeks Hollis (Holtsville, N.Y.) led Queens College with a match-high 10 kills. She also recorded two digs. Senior defensive specialist Vanessa Juengerkes (Islip, N.Y.) supplied two kills, 14 assists, an ace, and five digs, while senior libero Gina Giacalone (Smithtown, N.Y.) totaled 14 digs.
Lipinski added three digs to her scoring. Callahan, Byxbee, and sophomore middle hitter
Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) each finished with seven kills; the first added two assists and a team-high 10 digs, the second also offered an assist and nine digs, while the last also contributed an assist and a solo block. Sutton additionally provided a kill and two aces, while Sullivan and Green both finished with four aces.
Chestnut Hill College resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday, October 13, when they visit the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a 1:00 p.m. match.
