Late Goal Allows Rams to Top Griffins

Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/16/2018) – Junior defenseman Andrew Johnstone (Liverpool, England) used his head to give Chestnut Hill College an early 1-0 lead in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest, directing a corner kick from senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to the back of the Jefferson goal at 26:45. Unfortunately, the Rams took advantage of a Griffins miscue to tie the affair (1-1, 40:47) before halftime and netted the game-winner, 2-1 (82:06), with just under eight minutes remaining.

At the start of today's contest, Chestnut Hill College (6-9, 5-6) and Jefferson (7-6-1, 6-4-1) exchanged unsuccessful corner kicks until a Domingues restart was completed at the far post by Johnstone's head, 1-0 (26:45). Play settled after the Scarlet and Gold tally with neither team offering another shot until senior midfielder Ignacio Hernandez (Panama City, Panama) intercepted and scored a Griffin clear at 40:47, 1-1. After halftime, Chestnut Hill College went on the offensive once again. Unfortunately, offerings from senior forward Jason Burns (Reading, Pa.), junior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil), and Domingues missed their mark, allowing Jefferson to assume a late 2-1 advantage when junior midfielder Rashaan Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tapped in a pass from sophomore midfielder Val Mokrejs (Elverson, Pa.) at 82:06. The Griffins took three shots following the Ram tally, but junior goalkeeper Kris Donaldson (Jamaica) saved the first two and the last sailed wide to leave the decision in the home team's favor.

Mokrejs was the only Ram to record multiple shots; he offered four in addition to assisting on the game-winning-goal. Donaldson recorded seven saves in the win (4-4).

Johnstone, Burns, Domingues, Dutra, and junior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) all took two shots for Chestnut Hill College, who outshot Jefferson 12-10. Junior goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded two saves in the loss (3-4).

Chestnut Hill College concludes their CACC schedule on Saturday, October 20, when they welcome Felician University to Victory Field #1 for a 3:00 p.m. Senior Day contest.
