Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/17/2018) – Chestnut Hill College continued their winning streak tonight by defeating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom College 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16). The Scarlet and Gold took the first two sets with ease, but the Lightning interrupted their clean sweep attempt in the third period. Junior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) paced the Griffins with 17 (17K-4E-37TA) kills and classmate middle hitter
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) followed with 11 (11K-5E-27TA) kills.
In the first period, Goldey-Beacom College (4-19, 2-12 CACC) held their only lead of the frame (0-4), but Chestnut Hill College (8-15, 5-8 CACC) went on an eight point run (8-5) that changed the dynamic of the match. From there, the Griffins extended their advantage until they reached their destination, ending the period 25-17. The Scarlet and Gold brought the same energy into the second period, by maintaining a comfortable margin from Goldey-Beacom College, finishing the set 25-21.
Chestnut Hill College had difficulty securing the potential sweep, despite Byxbee recording six of her 17 kills in the third period. The Griffins were up 16-11, but a nine-point Lightning stretch turned the set into a back-and-forth battle. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold struggled to bounce back and Goldey-Beacom College took the win 22-25. The Griffins entered the fourth set with a vengeance, silencing the Lightning 4-0 in the opening exchanges. Chestnut Hill College fed off of their momentum punishing the visiting team 25-16 in the final set.
Sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) led Goldey-Beacom College with 14 kills, one assist, and seven digs. Freshman right side Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) followed with 12 kills and two digs, while freshman middle blocker Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, N.J.) (7 kills, 2 digs), freshman outside hitter Chelsey James (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (2 kills), and freshman setter Autumn Keller (Quarryville, Pa.) (1 kill, 3 digs) all contributed in Lightning kills.
Along with Byxbee's 17 kills she also added four assists and 18 digs, while Callahan logged eight digs with her 11 kills. Freshman right side
