Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/20/2018) – Chestnut Hill College closed another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division series this afternoon with a trip to Georgian Court University. There, the Lions welcomed the Griffins with a 25-10 setback before claiming the league win in just three sets, 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-14). Sophomore middle hitter
Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) was the Scarlet and Gold's top hitter with seven kills on a team-best .286 (7K-3E-14TA) hitting percentage. Senior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) was a major contributor as well with two kills, 17 assists, four digs, and a pair of block assists.
Georgian Court University (16-8, 12-3) opened the match with a 15-2 run that led to their initial 25-10 victory (1-0). The second set figured much differently than the first as Chestnut Hill College (7-16, 4-9) took a 4-1 before the Lions rallied for an 11-7 edge. The Griffins answered with a six-point run of their own that put them back in the driver's seat, 13-11. After a Lion timeout, Chestnut Hill College paced Georgian Court University to ties at 17-17, 18-18, 20-20, 21-21, and 22-22. The Lions eventually gained the edge at 23-22 and used advantage to take the set, 25-23 (2-0). The Griffins led at the beginning of the third set as well; this time they controlled an 8-5 lead before the Lions responded. Georgian Court University tied the frame at 8-8 and quickly grew a buffer with a 17-6 run to a 25-14 end (3-0).
Freshman middle blocker Grace Fenn (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the primary benefactor of Georgian Court University's twin-point play as sophomore setter Ashley Pierson (Rogersville, Mo.) and freshman setter Trilby Kite (York, Pa.) combined for 36 assists. The former was one of four Lions who pitched in to 10 team aces. Sophomore outside hitter Aubrey Binkley (Toms River, N.J.) and Emily McCurley (Monument, Colo.) teamed to lead the defense with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
In addition to Baldwin, junior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) (6 kills) and freshman right side
Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) (5) also recorded at least five kills. Junior libero
Janie Green (Hayes, Va.) captained the defense with a dozen (12) digs.
