Lightning Trumps Griffins With Lone Goal of CACC Affair

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/9/2018) – Chestnut Hill College and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom College went toe-to-toe at Victory Field #1 in tonight's contest. The Griffins created an even playing field that left the first half scoreless, but in the latter half the Lightning capitalized off of a deflection in the box resulting in the 1-0 loss.

Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 4-5 CACC) and Goldey-Beacom College (4-9-1, 3-5-1 CACC) were evenly matched during the first half, despite the visitor's (10-7) shot advantage. Junior defender Andrew Johnstone (Liverpool, England) attempted a last second (44:59) header off of a corner kick, but it was intercepted by the goalkeeper resulting in a 0-0 deadlock.  At 66:13 in the second half, a rebounded corner kick deflection off of junior goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) ultimately sealed the fate of Chestnut Hill College, 1-0. The Griffins had a promising run of four consecutive corner kicks (82:09, 82:28, 83:02, 83:28), unfortunately they could not translate any of those attempts into goals. Junior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) scrambled in a final heroic effort at 89:10, but he was denied ending the affair 1-0.

Senior midfield Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) recorded the only tally (2 shots) of the match headlining for Goldey-Beacom College, while eight other Lightning players logged shots as well.  Sophomore goalkeeper Cole Lewis (Middletown, Del.) took the win (1-2) with three saves.

Dutra led Chestnut Hill College with five shots, followed by three shots each from Johnstone, senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and senior forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny, Ireland). Junior midfielder Mo Ehmer (Surrey, England), senior forward Jason Burns (Reading, Pa.) all finished with one shot attempt and sophomore defender Matt Kehr (Exton, Pa.) recorded two shots. Maniscalco (2-3) had a six saves performance in the loss.

Chestnut Hill College continue their CACC schedule on Saturday, October 13, at Nyack College for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
