Griffins Lose Grip on Adlephi University in Day Two of Conference Challenge

Pleasantville, N.Y. - (11/11/2018) – Senior guard Cartier Talford (Reading, Pa.) and freshman forward Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) were the go-to guys in day two of the Conference Challenge, pacing Chestnut Hill College with 24 points each. Unfortunately, Adelphi University got the best of the Griffins in the final two-minutes of the second half, resulting in the 96-87 loss.

Chestnut Hill College (1-1) held their last lead of the contest at 17:20 (2-4) in the first half of play, despite trailing majority of the time they stayed a close distance from Adelphi University (2-0). At 7:39, a jumper from senior guard Dexter Thompson (Providence, R.I.) put the Griffins within one (22-21), but the closeness ignited the Panthers to a 13-point stretch, 35-21. Butler led the charge with ten points in the half aiding in the Scarlet and Gold's fight to stay afloat until the end of the opening period, resulting in the 43-33 half.

The game started to get away from the Griffins as they were down by as much as 12-points, but a Talford three-pointer at 12:10 (66-59) gave them the spark they needed. At 5:06, Chestnut Hill College went on a five-point (85-83) run, led by Talford and Butler, which forced Adelphi University into a timeout.  Out of the break the Panthers revived themselves hitting a crucial three-pointer (2:30) that hurt the Griffins, ultimately resulting in the 96-87 final.
