Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) 11-points kept the Griffins afloat in the first half, while senior guard
Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J) turned up the heat midway through the second half that carried them to victory. S
enior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) led the Scarlet and Gold with a double-double, her second of the season.
ESU (2-2) controlled majority of the first half, going 7 for 16 behind the three point line was a huge factor in their edge. Spratt took it upon herself to battle back, scoring nine of her 11 points in the second quarter that kept the Griffins within close reach by the end, 28-35 (2
nd QRT).
Wildgoose had a quiet opening period, but she turned it around in the second half scoring Chestnut Hill College's (1-3) first six-points (34-37, 3
rd QRT). ESU was able to extend their lead to as much as eight-points but the Griffins determination closed the margin to five-points by the end of the third, 46-51. The momentum of the contest shifted after an eight-point (4
th QRT) run, that included
sophomore guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), freshman guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) Wildgoose, and Trossi, pushed the Griffins up by two, 59-57. This moment started the Trossi train, as she came through and scored two big buckets at, 4:05 (61-57, 4
th QRT) and 3:23 (63-59, 4
th QRT), that ignited the Griffins to a four-point lead. The Warriors did manage to tie the affair 63-63 (2:54, 4
th QRT), but a six-point run with :51 left gave Chestnut Hill College a little bit of wiggle room. ESU tried to make a heroic comeback but the Griffins free-throw shooting solidified the 71-66 final.
Junior guard Tiffany Lapotsky (Ashland, Pa.) headlined the Warriors with 17-points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals and sophomore forward Marlene Bassett (Williamsport, Pa.) followed up with 16-points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Junior guard Jordan Hertz (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finished with nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and one steal, while senior guard Noelle Powell (Glen Mills, Pa.) added nine-points as well.
Wildgoose's double-double included 16-points and 15 rebounds (5Off-10Def), while also adding assists to her performance. Spratt was the second highest scorer for the Griffins with 11-points also she recorded three rebounds. Next in double figures was Trossi, which she logged all 10-points in the second half.
