Philadelphia, Pa. – (12/19/2018) – After a competitive 40-39 first half, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Georgian Court University (GCU) separated themselves early in the fourth period, that was unrecoverable for Chestnut Hill College resulting in the 88-73 final. Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.). Sebold notched a career high 26 points in tonight's contest.
Sebold carried Chestnut Hill College (2-8, 0-2 CACC) in the first period with 11 points, aiding in their 24-15 edge. At 4:30 (30-24, 2
nd QRT), GCU (2-8, 2-0) went on a slight seven-point run that put them within a one-point margin of the Griffins (30-29, 3:37). Both teams battled it out exchanging the lead in the last 1:33 (37-36) of the half, until the Lions had the final say knocking down a jumper to put them over the edge by the end, 40-39 (:42, 2
nd QRT). Sebold finished the half with 17 of her 26 points. By the end of the third quarter GCU was able to push to a small six-point lead over Chestnut Hill College, 58-52. The tempo of the match changed after a GCU three-pointer, at 7:34, catapulted them to a 10-point lead (65-55, 4th QRT), the first double digit margin of the night. Unfortunately, the Griffins struggled to close the gap in enough time and the Lions led by as much as 15 points (72-57, 4:11; 4th QRT). GCU maintained their comfortable lead until the very end, resulting in the 88-73 end.
Four players from Georgian Court University scored in double figures tonight. Leading the Lion pack was junior guard Jada Atchison (Burlington, N.J.) with 23 points (5REB, 4AST, 1STL), next in line was senior forward Destiny Thompson (Bridgeton, N.J.) with 16 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Junior forward Safiyyah Lee (Camden, N.J.) followed with a double-double performance, 15 points and 12 rebounds (4AST, 3STL), and rounding them out is sophomore guard Nerea Brajac (Cohoes, N.Y.) recording 10 points ((6REB, 3AST).
On top of setting her career high 26 points (.320, 8-of-25 FG,) Sebold also posted three rebounds and one assist. Wildgoose was two points shy from being the new program leader in points, with her 17 points (6REB, 4AST, 1STL) performance. Crim gave the Griffins 12 points (3REB, 2AST, 1STL) and Spratt chipped in 11 points (3REB, 4AST).
Chestnut Hill College will take a break for the holidays, resuming on Wednesday, January 2, as they take on CACC opponent Goldey-Beacom College. Start time is at 6:00 p.m.
