Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/15/2018) – Concordia College (NY) may have scored the first goal of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, but they later found themselves outmatched as Chestnut Hill College secured a 2-1 halftime advantage before posting a 4-1 win over the visiting Clippers. Sophomore forwards Luca Sana (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Dennis Limani (Norderstedt, Germany) collaborated early in the affair as Concordia College (1-3-1, 1-2) got on the scoreboard first with a long cross and one-touch strike at 1:43 (1-0). Chestnut Hill College (3-3, 2-1) answered in the 12
th minute, when Doherty buried a restart at 11:48 (1-1). In a back-and-forth first half, the next Griffin goal came on a Doherty through ball that found Marra's oncoming foot at 28:31 (2-1). The Scarlet and Gold took their 2-1 advantage into the break and promptly added to it in the second half as Johnson and Burns pushed the ball down the far sideline before locating Marra for his second score of the affair at 57:12 (3-1). A little more than a minute later (58:36), the Griffins linked up again; this time, Marra centered the ball to Doherty, whose touch pass gave Burns a perfect setup from the left side, 4-1.
With a dozen (12) second half shots, the Clippers ended up outshooting the Griffins 17-14, but sophomore goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) was up to the task, making the only four saves required to earn the win (3-3). Limani led Concordia College with five shots. Freshman forward Marlon Buck (Vienna, Austria) supported with four shots. Senior goalkeeper Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) made five saves in the loss (1-2-1).
Doherty was a major factor in the final, leading Chestnut Hill College with six shots and finishing the game with four points (1 goal, 2 assists). Marra and Burns played their part in the victory as well; the former scored twice on four shots and provided and assist to finish the game with five points, while the latter scored on his only shot and also contributed an assist.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, September 19, when they visit Wilmington University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
