Wilmington, Del. - (9/11/2018) – Chestnut Hill College visited Wilmington, Delaware, tonight, Tuesday, September 11, to earn their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season over Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-11). The Lighting put up a fight in the first two sets, but a combined 16-kill performance from sophomore outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and junior middle hitter
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Scarlet and Gold the edge they needed to finish Goldey-Beacom College in three sets.
The first race to 25 was not made easy by Goldey-Beacom College (2-9, 0-2), who stuck with Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 1-1) until the very end of the set. The Griffins were down 20-18, but then made their move with a four-point stretch that included two consecutive kills by sophomore
Mykayla Milchling (Baltimore, Md.) and forced the Lighting into a timeout, down 22-20. After the timeout, the Scarlet and Gold added another point to their run with an ace from senior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.), 23-20, before a clutch kill by Kalala eventually sealed the win, 25-23. The second set was much like the previous, going down to the wire. But this time, the Griffins held a steady lead for a majority of the frame. They held their largest margin at 17-13, but Goldey-Beacom College was able to sneak back within one point, 22-21. Fortunately, Chestnut Hill College proved to be superior team, not folding under pressure and securing the victory after a Callahan kill, 25-22. The Scarlet and Gold found their groove by the third set, ending the match with a 25-11 set-victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, N.J.) calculated 16 kills, seven assists, and 10 digs to lead Goldey-Beacom College. She was followed by freshman right side Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.), who totaled nine kills, six assists, and 12 digs.
Callahan added six assists and 10 digs to her eight kills, while Kalala recorded two assists, two digs, and a block in excess of her eight kills. Freshman right side
Lauren Lipinski (Glibert, Ariz.) totaled five kills, two assists, two digs, and one block, while sophomore outside hitter
Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster,Pa.) offered four kills, one assist, and two blocks. Sutton logged two kills, 28 assists, and five digs. Milchling recorded two kills and three blocks.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule at home on Thursday, September 13, with a 7:00 p.m. contest versus the University of the Sciences (USciences).
