Griffins Push The University of the Sciences To Five Sets In 3-2 Loss

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/13/2018) –Chestnut Hill College hosted tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup against the University of the Sciences in Sorgenti Arena.  The Griffins secured the first set of the night, but the Devils won the next two sets putting the pressure on the home team. The Scarlet and Gold interrupted their opponents run on the fourth set pushing the contest into a final period that would determine their fate. Despite the combined 29 kills effort from junior middle hitter Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) and classmate Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.), the Scarlet and Gold could not take down University of the Sciences in the fifth set, 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13). Senior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) reached yet another milestone, recording the 41 assists needed to capture her 3000th career assist at Chestnut Hill College.

Chestnut Hill College (3-7, 1-2 CACC) earned the early advantage of the contest defeating the University of the Sciences (2-7, 1-2 CACC) 22-25 (0-1) in the first period. The Devils tested the Griffins in the next two sets, locking down both wins, 25-20 and 25-23 (2-1). The University of the Sciences only needed one more win to end the night but the gallant Griffins fought their way through the fourth period, garnering a 22-25 (2-2) victory. In the final period, a crucial kill by Callahan put the Scarlet and Gold within one point, 14-13, which forced the Devils into a timeout. Unfortunately, out of time out an unlucky scoring opportunity for the Griffins went in favor the visiting team, ending the affair 15-13.

Senior outside hitter Dakota Raymond (Chadds Ford, Pa.) led the University of the Sciences with 15 kills and 24 digs, while freshman outside hitter Bianca Galis (Toms River, N.J.) tallied 12 kills and one dig.  Junior outside hitter Sarah Miller (Harpursville, N.Y.) and senior middle hitter Brooke Witmer (Manheim, Pa.) both recorded nine kills each.
