Griffins Miss Target in Non-Conference Affair Versus Roberts Wesleyan College

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/26/2018) – Chestnut Hill College hosted opponent Roberts Wesleyan College in today's non-conference matchup at Victory Field #1. Both teams let off 21 shots each but it was the Redhawks who capitalized most off of their attempts, winning the affair 4-1. Senior forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) recorded his fourth goal of the season after a penalty kick was granted in the first period, logging the Scarlet and Gold's only goal in loss.
 
Roberts Wesleyan College (3-3-3) gained an early head start in the first half, recording their first goal at 12:36 and a little over five minutes (18:06) later they recorded their second tally, 2-0.  Chestnut Hill College (3-6) had trouble getting promising opportunities at the net, while the Redhawks produced yet another goal at 24:43, 3-0. In an effort to capture the Griffins first tally, senior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made an aggressive play in the box that drew a foul and was awarded with a penalty kick. Unfortunately, Domnigues could not convert the opportunity into a tally, but a gallant follow up effort on a loose ball from Doherty landed the Scarlet and Gold with another penalty kick (36:20). This free kick was a success and the Griffins got on the board before the end of the first period, 3-1.
 
In the second half, Chestnut Hill College out shot Roberts Wesleyan College 12 to 7, but they could not translate any of those attempts into goals.  Senior forward Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) was the main attacker in the Griffins' lineup, letting off five of his nine total shots in this period. The Griffins were able to subdued the Redhawks until the final stretch, where the visitors tacked on one last point at 84:50 (4-1).
 
Freshman midfielder Dylan Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) headlined Roberts Weselyan College's success recording their first two points. He finished with a team-high nine shots.  Reserves, sophomore midfielder Trevon Michael (Land O Lakes, Fla.) and junior defender Elijah Jarvis (Webster, N.Y.) both logged one goal each, while senior goalkeeper Ben Hastings (Youngstown, N.Y.) took the win with nine saves.
 
Doherty accumulated four shots to record Chestnut Hill College's lone goal, but Burns was the Griffins' primary target with nine shots. Junior goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) made six saves in the loss (0-2).
 
Chestnut Hill College returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, when they host Post University in a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 29.
