Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/12/2019) – Chestnut Hill College hosted Bloomfield College for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. The league rivals traded opening runs before the Bears distanced themselves for a 57-33 halftime lead and later a 98-64 victory over the Griffins. Junior guard
Billy Miller VI (Pine Hill, N.J.) led the Scarlet and Gold with his third 19-point game of the season, each a career-high, with a 6-of-11 (.545) effort from the floor that included two, three point baskets (2-of-4, .500) and an accompanying 5-of-8 (.625) free throw performance.
Bloomfield College (8-7, 6-0) controlled play off the opening tip, separating from Chestnut Hill College (3-12, 0-6) for a 12-point, 21-9 (14:00), lead in the first six minutes. Thanks to the efforts of Miller and senior forward
Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) the Scarlet and Gold answered with an 18-7 that cut the deficit to one, 28-27, before the eight minute mark (8:14). Unfortunately, the Bears outscored the Griffins 29-6 to halftime and led by as many as 49 points, 96-47 (8:37) en route to the 34-point, 98-64, final spread.
Three Bears recorded double-doubles; senior forward Kavione Green (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded his before halftime – 22 points, 10 rebounds – and finished the game with 31 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals. The other double-double efforts came from sophomore forward Rich Chapman (Newark, N.J) and senior guard Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.); the former offered 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists, while the later paired 12 points and 13 assists in addition to four rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior Guard Dontay Julius (Liden, N.J.) was the fourth Bear in double figures with 14 point in excess of three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Miller was one of three Griffins to score in double figures, McWade was another with a season-high 18 points in addition to nine rebounds and a steal. The third was freshman forward
Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.), who paired his 10 points with six rebounds and a steal.
Chestnut Hill College plays their next three CACC contests on the road, the first of which is a 7:30 p.m. contest cross-city rival, Holy Family University on Wednesday, January 16.
