Wilmington, Del. – (1/2/2019) – The freshmen combination of
Amir Warrick (Washington, DC) and
Juston Bailey (Riverdale, Md.) kept Chestnut Hill College in the mix early, but a late first half run separated Goldey-Beacom College for a 12-point, 40-28, halftime lead in an eventual 20-point, 83-63, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision. In addition to a career-high 16 points from both Warrick and Bailey, senior forward
Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) provided 13 points and eight rebounds.
Warrick took the forefront for Chestnut Hill College (3-9, 0-3), who briefly grabbed a 13-12 advantage on a three pointer from sophomore guard
Colin Flach (Glenside, Pa.) at 11:09. Flach hit another three pointer to keep the Griffins within three points, 19-16, of Goldey-Beacom College (6-6, 4-0) three minutes later (8:18), but junior forward Dwayne Dixon (Newark, N.J.) inspired the Lightning for a 21-12 run to halftime. After intermission, Goldey-Beacom College grew their lead to as many as 27 points, 70-43, rendering the rallying perimeter assaults of Warrick and Bailey futile over the final 7:18.
Dixon led all scorers with 20 points. He also provided Goldey-Beacom College with four rebounds, two assists, and a block. Off the Lightning bench, sophomore guard Kyle Elliott (Rahway, N.J.) and senior guard Mahir Johnson (Chester, Pa.) provided quality contributions; the former offered 16 points, two rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal, while the latter totaled 13 points, three rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Freshman guard Giovanni Jones (Norfolk, Va.) was a factor as well with five points, nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Warrick added six rebounds and three assists to his 16 points, while Bailey backed his with three rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. McWade's eight rebounds topped the Griffins' superior effort on the glass (44-35).
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, January 5, when they travel to Dominican College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
