Newark, Del. – (1/22/2019) – Chestnut Hill College earned a much-needed, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win this evening at Wilmington University as the Griffins conquered the Wildcats by a decisive 92-62 margin. The Scarlet and Gold placed five players in double figures, including three who finished with a dozen (12) points; senior guard

Morgan Orloski (Bethlehem, Pa.), who knocked down 3-of-6 (.500) three point shots in the first double digit performance of her collegiate career.

Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) scored the first Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 2-6) basket off the opening tip (2-0, 9:47), and the Griffins never looked back as they paced Wilmington University (3-13, 3-5) to a 44-33 halftime spread. In the first quarter, the paint play of Wildgoose and Miller kept the Scarlet and Gold a step ahead of the Wildcats, who led briefly – 9-8 (5:15) – 16-14 (2:14), before the late hustle of sophomore guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), freshman guard
Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.), and Orloski reestablished Chestnut Hill College for a 21-18 first-quarter edge. The late push gave the Griffins the momentum heading into the second quarter, where the Scarlet and Gold advantage reached double digits, 35-23 (5:21), midway through the frame and rested at 11 points, 44-33, at intermission.
A 59.3 (16-of-27) shooting effort that included a 7-of-14 (.500) three point performance and was accompanied by a 9-of-12 (.750) conversion rate at the charity stripe separated the Griffins in the second half. With a balanced attack, Chestnut Hill College gradually grew their lead to 27 points, 74-47 (0:58), by the final minute of the third quarter and later, to as many as 31 points, 81-50 (7:17), in the opening minutes of the final frame.
Senior forward Nyree Grant (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) led three Wildcats in double figures with 15 points. She also recorded six rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Sophomore forward Jadyn Whitsitt (Fort Washington, Md.) and freshman guard Kiara Eubanks (Accokeek, Md.) offered 10 points apiece; the former also recorded two rebounds and two assists, while the latter added an assist to her double digit scoring effort.
Miller was one of the reasons the Griffins were able to mount their halftime lead as she provided eight points and four rebounds in the first two frames. She finished the contest with a season and career-high 12 points, eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Trossi's 12 points is a season-high for her. She also recorded four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Orloski's breakout performance with an assist and a block. Sebold finished with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Spratt added a team-high five assists and four rebounds to her 10 points.
Chestnut Hill College returns to Sorgenti Arena on Sunday, January 26, when they host Concordia College (NY) in a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest.
