Clippers Edge Griffins in Final Minutes; McWade Scores Season High 22 Points

Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/27/2019) – Chestnut Hill College was on the hunt for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win in today's competitive matchup against Concordia College. Only trailing by two points in the first half (31-28), the Griffins rallied together to keep the game tight until the very end. Senior forward Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) led with a game-high 22 points, but his efforts were not enough, as a crucial six-point run in the final two minutes gave the Clippers the leverage they needed to seal the 66-61 win. McWade scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half.
 
Chestnut Hill College (3-15, 0-9 CACC) had an even spread in the first half that kept them within arm's reach of Concordia College (8-11, 5-5 CACC) throughout the period. Freshman forward Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) (7), junior guard Billy Miller VI (Pine Hill, N.J.), and McWade (8) collectively made up 20 of the Griffins 28 points ending the half with the Clippers on top 31-28.The Scarlet and Gold kept the same energy in the second half to gain a good enough advantage to take control. A McWade three pointer at 3:23 (2nd half), gave the Griffins the chance at creating a solid lead, 57-56.  Off of that high, senior forward Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) followed up his team with a big bucket at that put the Scarlet and Gold up by three points (59-56, 2:50).  Unfortunately, made a six-point run that the Griffins struggled to recover from, ending the contest 66-61.
 
 
Senior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) led the charge for Concordia College with 22 points, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals.  Following his performance was sophomore guard Baron Goodridge (Bronx, N.Y.) with 10 points, one rebound, two assists, and three steals.
 
McWade was two points shy of tying his career high (24) with his 22-points performance. He also logged eight rebounds, and one steal.  The rest of the Griffins lineup calculated under ten points.  Toplyn (8), Butler (7), senior guard Dexter Thompson (Providence, R.I,) (6), Miller (5), senior guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) (5), freshman forward Amir Warrick (Washington, D.C.) (4), senior forward Roman Letterlough (Harrisburg, Pa.) (2), freshman guard Juston Bailey (Riverdale, Md.) (2).
 
Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play hosting Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, January 30, at 8:00 p.m.
