Orangeburg, N.Y. – (1/5/2019) – Headlined by six, three point baskets (6-of-10, .600) from sophomore guard Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.), Dominican College's perimeter shooting (10-of-21, .476) allowed them to pace Chestnut Hill College in a 76-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. Guerra led all scorers with 29 points, while senior forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) led three Griffins in double figures and recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Buckets from sophomore guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) (2-0, 9:19) and freshman center
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) (4-2, 8:41) gave Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 0-4) a pair of early leads, but Dominican College (4-8, 2-1) emerged from the initial competition for a 20-13 (0:42) first-quarter edge. The Lady Charger advantage increased to double digits (23-13, 9:07) for most of the second quarter (34-24, 1:40). Fortunately, the Griffins rallied late, using some free throw chances and defense to cut the halftime spread back to just six points, 34-28 (0:17). Wildgoose led the Griffins in the first half with 11 points, six rebounds, a block, and a steal.
In the second half, it was junior forward
Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.), who fronted a balanced Scarlet and Gold effort with a pair of three point baskets (2-of-3, .667) and nine total points. Unfortunately, her performance was overshadowed by Guerra as the Lady Chargers' lead guard knocked down four of her six, three point baskets (4-of-6, .667), added a pair of jumpers (6-of-8, .750), and hit five free throws (5-of-6, .833) for 21 second half points. Her effort maxed the Lady Charger's lead at 18 points, 67-49, midway through the fourth quarter (5:01); Wildgoose, Miller, and freshman guard
Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) issued a fleeting Griffin rally that cut the final margin to 11 points, 76-65.
Guerra added three rebounds, two assists, and three steals to her 29 points. Junior forward Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) and senior forward Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) also finished in double figures; the former totaled 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a block, while the latter recorded 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal. Sophomore forward Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) was a factor as well with six points, 10 rebounds, and a steal.
Wildgoose was 5-of-10 (.500) from the field and 5-of-6 (.833) from the free throw line, headlining the Griffins' pedestrian team performances (21-of-57, .368 FG%|21-of-34, .618 FT%). She grabbed eight of her 10 rebounds on the defensive glass, while also recording two blocks and a steal. Glenn scored in double digits for the fourth time this season as she finished with 11 points in excess five rebounds, a block, and a steal. Trossi was Chestnut Hill College's third double digit scorer with 10 point in addition to four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Chestnut Hill College returns to Sorgenti Arena on Tuesday, January 8, when they host Jefferson in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
