Griffins Take Dig Pink Game Against Devils

Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/16/2019) – Chestnut Hill College got back in the win column on Wednesday night with a four-set victory (25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 25-12) over University of the Sciences. The Griffins, sporting pink uniforms for their annual Dig Pink game benefiting the Side Out Foundation, used a .278 hitting night to take the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) contest and improve back to .500 overall on the season.

Freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) went on a number of service runs throughout the match, kicking it off in the opener with a five-point run to help the Griffins (9-9, 6-4) pull away midway through the first set. The momentum from that 25-16 opening set victory carried over to the second, but the Devils (7-11, 4-4) managed to pull within a point at 16-15. Chestnut Hill College would go on to win nine of the next 13 points thanks to a .406 team hitting percentage across the second set to take the 2-0 lead. University of the Sciences avoided a sweep after overcoming a five-point deficit to take the third set, 25-21. But the Griffins saved a strong performance for the fourth set, hitting .350 with just a single error to run away with the 25-12 win.

The Devils were led by sophomore outside hitter Natalia Valez (Carolina, Puerto Rico), who had a match-high 13 kills. Freshman Angeli Roman Medina (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Caelin Jaskot (Mahwah, N.J.) were the main providers for the University of the Sciences offense, with the two setters tallying 17 and 15 digs, respectively.

Sophomore right side Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) matched her season-high with 10 kills to lead the Griffins' offense. Ramos recorded a double-double to set match-high totals in assists (21) and digs (16). The Griffins served seven aces against the Devils. Senior right side Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.), who also was second on the team with 13 assists and eight digs, led the Griffins with three aces.

Chestnut Hill College will head on the road for a noon match on Saturday, October 19 against Bloomfield College. The game will be streamed live on the CACC Network
