Wilmington, Del. - (10/30/2019) – Chestnut Hill College made it a sweep of Goldey-Beacom College with tonight's 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road win. The Griffins made it a quick trip to down the 95, putting the Lightning away with successive wins of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-19; the Scarlet and Gold came back late to win the opening set in extended fashion, separated from Goldey-Beacom College late in the second set, and gave the Lightning little hope of a rally with a decided victory in the third set. Junior outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman setter
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) were the main cogs in a .255 (41K-14E-106TA) Chestnut Hill College hitting percentage with 19 kills and 28 assists, respectively.
Chestnut Hill College (11-11, 8-6) paced Goldey-Beacom College (5-17, 2-11) to an early 9-9 tie and trailed the Lightning, 21-17, before senior right side
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) and Ramos located Kalala for a series of kills that tied the contest at 23-23. A pair of miscues kept the score knotted at 24-24. Callahan and Kalala scored the set-winners on respective assists from Ramos (25-24) and freshman defensive specialist
Bianca Diaz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) (26-24). In the second set, it was the Griffins who trailed the Lightning to a 9-9 stalemate. This time, the set stayed neck-and-neck until Chestnut Hill College scored five straight points on Ramos' serve for a 23-18 edge. From there it was only a matter of time before the Scarlet and Gold captured a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 second-set victory. Like the two before it, the third set tied at 9-9 as well. Chestnut Hill College governed the set to that point and afterwards as they found a 14-9 lead with four points on Diaz's serve and finished Goldey-Beacom College off with a comfortable 25-19 win.
Sophomore right side Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) led the Lightning with 11 kills, two aces, four digs, and a block assist. Her classmate, setter Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, Nev.) offered 27 assists, an ace, eight digs, and a block assist, while junior defensive specialist Makensie Balderson (Fairfax, Va.) offered a versatile performance with seven kills, two aces, and nine digs.
