Nyack, N.Y. - (11/2/2019) – Getting back on the playoff path, Chestnut Hill College extended their current winning streak to three matches with today's 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Nyack College. The Griffins took the first two sets – 25-14 and 25-22 - to gain an early 2-0 advantage on the Warriors. After surrendering the third set, 25-22, the Scarlet and Gold used a 9-4 opening run to clinch the match with an eventual 25-18 fourth-set victory. Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) (12 kills, 2 block assists) and freshman setter
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) (9 kills, three aces, two block assists) lead the group with 13.0 point apiece.
Chestnut Hill College (12-11, 9-6) opened with a strong first set, hitting .312 (14K-4E-32TA) to own a 16-8 advantage before their eventual 25-14 win. Ramos killed four balls in the set and assisted on eight others, contributing to a dozen of the Griffins' points. Kalala and sophomore right side
Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) also were significant contributors to the opening win, offering three kills apiece in the process. The Scarlet and Gold capitalized on their 1-0 lead over Nyack College (7-13, 6-8) with a 25-22 win in the second set. There, play was much more competitive as the Griffins and Warriors locked at 17-17 before Chestnut Hill College's 8-5 closing run. With their backs against the wall, the Warriors recovered with a matching 25-22 win in the third set. Fortunately, the effort was not enough to sway the momentum in their favor as the Griffins managed to conclude the match with a convincing 25-18 fourth-set score.
Junior middle hitter Kyra Zuhlke (Johnstown, Colo.) led Nyack College with 11.5 points; she recorded 11 of them on the attack with 11 kills on a team-best .400 (11K-1E-25TA) hitting percentage. Junior setter Rachel Medin (San Diego, Calif.) was her greatest compliment with four kills, 29 assists, 14 digs, and a pair of block assists. Junior defensive specialist Bailey Medeiros (Burnsville, Minn.) captained the Warriors' defensive efforts with 16 digs.
Kalala added an assist and five digs to her 13 points. Meanwhile, Ramos provided 24 assists and 11 digs in addition to her 13 points. She narrowly missed recording her seventh triple-double of the season, totaling nine kills in excess of three aces and a pair of block assists. Senior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) was another of the five Griffins who offered double digit points to the victory. She recorded 12.5 points with 11 kills, an ace, and a block assist. Lipinski totaled 12.0 points with nine kills and three aces, while senior right side
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) accumulated 10.0 points with five kills, three aces, and four block assists. Callahan also recorded 14 assists and 11 digs.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, November 5, when they welcome Wilmington University to Sorgenti Arena for a 7:00 p.m. match.
