Kalala Kills, Ramos Provides, Griffins Defeat Clippers for Fourth Straight CACC Victory

Bronxville, N.Y. - (10/5/2019) – A vengeful Chestnut Hill College took the court after dropping the opening set of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Concordia College (NY), 25-14. In a gritty performance, the Griffins rallied and paced for back-to-back 25-23 wins in the second and third sets, before securing a 3-1 league win with a 25-20 victory in the fourth frame. Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) crushed with 19 points (16 kills, 6 block assists) and a pair of digs, while freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) directed the Scarlet and Gold to success with a 12-kill, 26-assist, 16-dig triple-double; her fourth such effort of the season.

Concordia College (2-4, 2-4) paced Chestnut Hill College (7-7, 4-2) to a 25-14 end in the opening set thanks to a .387 (15K-3E-31TA) team hitting percentage, three aces, and a block. The tone changed in the second set, where a refocused Griffin unit established an early 10-6 lead and used a late 7-1 run to even the match with a 25-23 victory. The Scarlet and Gold grabbed the edge with a matching – yet more decisive – 25-23 win in the third set. Ramos (6 assists) took turns with senior right side Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) (6) splitting a dozen (12) assists, while killing five of her own points. In the fourth frame, Chestnut Hill College used the momentum to run away for a 21-13 lead before securing the match with a convincing 25-20 triumph.

Freshman middle blocker Madison Gardner (Oak Hills, Calif.) led the Clippers with 15 kills on a .306 (15K-4E-36TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded three assists, three aces, three digs, a solo block, and four block assists in a team-best 21-point effort. Fellow freshman middle blocker Tanializ Rivera (Carolina, Puerto Rico) joined her in double digit kills with 14. She also offered an assist, two aces, eight digs, and a block assist. Sophomore right side Militza De Hostos (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) (18 assists) and senior defensive specialist Alana Rousset-Hernandez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) (16) combined for 34 assists with the former leading a trio of double digit diggers with her 22.

Kalala's 19-point performance was backed by a 14.5 point effort from Ramos, who added two aces and a block assist to her triple-double. Callahan finished with five kills, 19 assists, 12 digs, and four block assists. She and Ramos were joined in double digit digs by senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) and senior libero Janie Green (Hayes, Va.), who recorded 16 digs and 13 digs, respectively. Chestnut Hill College totaled 12 team blocks with junior middle hitter Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) recording the only solo effort (22 block assists) in an impressive defensive showing.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 8, when they return to Sorgenti Arena to host Jefferson in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
