Dolphins Defeat Griffins at College of St. Rose Tip-Off Tournament

Albany, N.Y. - (11/10/2019) – Offense continued to shine today, Sunday, November 10, at the College of St. Rose Tip-off Tournament. Unfortunately, for Chestnut Hill College it was Le Moyne College who got the best of the offensive production as the Dolphins won the neutral site venture 123-70 with a 42-of-72 (.583) shooting performance that included 21 threes (21-of-41, .512) and was supported by a 18-of-23 (.783) effort at the free throw line. Off the bench, freshman guard Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Griffins with 17 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Le Moyne College (1-1) steadily grew their first-half advantage to 14 points, 27-13 (11:39), with a flurry of activity from senior guard Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y.). A pair of Spann free throws cut the Dolphin edge to single digits, 27-19, with 9:33 remaining in the frame. Unfortunately, Chestnut Hill College (0-2) was not able to keep the spread there for long as Le Moyne College as Roland led another Dolphin surge that pushed the deficit to 15 points, 34-19, with 7:31 to go, and 20 points, 41-21, with 6:35 to go. Their lead settled at 17 points, 56-39, for halftime, but quickly grew to 31 points, 70-39, at 15:30, before expanding to 40 points, 86-46, with just after the 12-minute mark (11:56), and 51 points, 101-51, four minutes later (7:56).

In the process, junior guard Tim Leavell (Marion, Ind.) emerged as the Dolphins leading scorer. He hit 12-of-16 (.750) from the field, including seven three pointers (7-of-10, .700), and added a free throw (1-of-2, .500) to total 32 points in all. Leavell also recorded eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Roland finished with 26 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and three steals, while three others scored in double figures in Le Moyne College's high-scoring performance.

Spann was 6-of-12 (.500) from the field and 4-of-4 (1.000) at the line in his 17-point effort. He also recorded five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. The rest of the Scarlet and Gold's points were spread rather evenly among nine Griffins. Junior forward Eli Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa.) was not one of them as he recorded a team-high 10 rebounds and an assist in the affair.

Chestnut Hill College plays next on Wednesday, November 13, when they visit the University of the District of Columbia for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
