PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (11/14/19) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Millersville University to Sorgenti Arena on Thursday night, but could not grab its second straight win as a poor shooting night plagued the Griffins (1-2) in their 71-54 loss.
Junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) tallied a team-high 20 points and sophomore forward
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) recorded her third consecutive double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) for the Scarlet and Gold. The efforts were undone in a Marauders (1-2) second-quarter run that opened up the double-digit lead that they eventually held on to in the second half for the win.
Miller had a strong first quarter with eight points to give the Griffins a 14-13 lead after 10 minutes, but a 12-1 Millersville run at the start of that second period marked the turning point in the game. The Marauders took a 34-22 lead into the break and Chestnut Hill College was never able to get within single digits again through the rest of the outing. Leading by as many as 20 in the second half, Millersville University took the victory, 71-54.
The Marauders were led by junior guard Lauren Lister (Blandon, Pa.), who finished with team highs in points (26), rebounds (7), and blocks (2). The team shot 46.4 percent from the field to score 70-plus for the third consecutive game.
Along with Sebold and Miller, sophomore guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa) was the third Griffin to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points in her 35 minutes on the floor. Freshman forward
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) did her best to provide Chestnut Hill College second opportunities, grabbing four offensive boards. She also had a team-high four steals, tied with sophomore guard
Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.).
Chestnut Hil College head coach
Jim Connolly played all 12 Griffins in the game. Freshman guard
Trinity Brittingham (Middletown, Del.) made her collegiate debut, while fellow freshman guard
Amber Washington (Bear, Del.) scored her first collegiate point.
The Scarlet and Gold will be back in action for the first road game of the year, heading to New York Tech for a clash at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 16.
