Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (11/05/2019) – Chestnut Hill College dropped its
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Tuesday night against Wilmington University, 3-0 (14-25, 22-25, 24-26). The Griffins battled, even staving off a match point in the third set, but could not force a comeback against the Wildcats.
Wilmington University (19-11, 11-5) got off to a hot start, opening the match on a 6-1 run and building up an 11-point lead a little more than midway through the first set. Hitting .300 as a team, the Wildcats took won that first set 25-14. They started off strong in the second set, as well – leading by as many as eight points. But the Griffins (12-12, 9-7) fought back thanks to a five-point service run from senior right side
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) to make it 16-13. Chestnut Hill College could not continue their momentum and the Wildcats held on for a three-point second set win.
Trailing 18-12 in the third set, the Griffins battled once more to challenge the Wildcats. Led by four kills from junior outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) during an 8-2 run, Chestnut Hill College tied the match. Despite saving a match point at 24-23, the Griffins fell in straight sets after the Wildcats topped off their third set win with a deciding ace from junior outside hitter Mandy Behiels (Edmonton, Alberta).
Behiels led Wilmington University with 14 kills off of .424 hitting. Senior middle hitter Rebecca Rawlinson (Cockeysville, Md.) topped the Wildcats with a .538 hitting percentage, attacking 13 times for nine kills in the match. Freshman libero Elly Collins (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) recorded a team-high 14 kills, while sophomore setter Sarah Couch (Pasadena, Md.) dished out 37 of her team's 42 assists.
The Griffins tallied 38 kills in the match, with Kalala breaking into double figures again after an 11-kill night. Junior middle hitter
Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) recorded an impressive .714 hitting percentage off her five kills in the match. Freshman setter
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) tallied 20-plus assists for the fourth straight match with her 23-assist performance and senior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) led Chestnut Hill College with 10 digs.
