PHILADELPHIA (11/20/19) – Chestnut Hill College surged back from a double-digit deficit in the second half with the help of a career-high 20 points from sophomore forward
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.), but fell in a non-conference clash against Bloomsburg, 70-58. Sorgenti Arena was rocking during a 17-2 Griffins run in the third quarter, highlighted by eight-straight points from junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) to give them the lead, but the Huskies regained control in the fourth quarter to take the Wednesday night tilt.
Despite leading by as many as 11 and taking a nine-point lead into the locker room, Bloomsburg University (1-1) found itself on the back foot at the beginning of the second half. Sophomore guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) and Miller, who each scored eight points in the opening two periods, broke into double figures to kick off the Chestnut Hill College (1-4) run before eventually combining with Miller assisting on a Crim three-pointer to bring the Griffins within a possession. Sebold then stepped up, knocking down three field goals, including a pair of contested three-pointers, to give the Scarlet and Gold a 47-40 lead.
Following a timeout, the Huskies recovered to get within a point heading into the fourth quarter. From there, Bloomsburg University took over – limiting the Griffins to just eight points in the period and riding the clutch play of junior guard Payton Spadaccino (Ivyland, Pa.), who scored all of her seven points in the frame and added two assists to her team second-best five assists.
Senior guard Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa.) scored a game-high 23 points for the Huskies, while junior guard Emma Saxton (York, Pa.) led them with six assists and junior forward Lauren Oeth (Doylestown, Pa.) notched a team-high six rebounds off the bench in her 24 minutes of action.
The Griffins had two players finish in double figures, as Miller led the team for the second time this season and Crim scored 10-plus for the fourth straight game with her 18-point outing. Miller tied freshman forward
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) for the team-high in rebounds with nine boards each. Sebold had a team-high four assists and tallied three steals, which matched sophomore guard
Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) to lead the team.
Chestnut Hill College travels to East Stroudsburg University in its next game for a 5:30 p.m. showdown on Wednesday, November 27.
