Griffins Fall in Hot Shooting Clash with No. 12 West Chester University

PHILADELPHIA (11/30/19) – Chestnut Hill College hung around with No. 12 West Chester University, but the Golden Rams ran away in the second half to secure a 95-74 win. The Griffins (0-6) had five players finish in double figures, including junior forward Eli Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa.), who recorded a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds).

The Scarlet and Gold got off to a fast start and stayed with West Chester (8-0) through most of the first half thanks to a 40 percent shooting clip in the first 20 minutes of action. The Golden Rams consistently had an answer to Chestnut Hill College's hot hand, though, putting up 50 points in the first half to go into the break with an 11-point lead.

The Griffins stepped up their defense at the start of the first half, but West Chester University continued to go on hot shooting streaks. The Golden Rams nailed 15 three-pointers (41.7 percent), with freshman guard Robbie Heath (Whittlesea, Australia) leading the way – hitting six three-pointers in his 37-point outing. The visitors also received double-figure scoring efforts from three other players, including 15 points off the bench from junior guard Antoine Lewis (New Rochelle, N.Y.). The shooting efforts were just too much for Chestnut Hill College to handle, as it fell by a 21-point margin.

Freshman guard Conor Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J.) led the Griffins in scoring (16 points) and assists (five) in his Sorgenti Arena debut. Sophomore guard James Rider IV (Baltimore, Md.) knocked down four of the Griffins' eight three-pointers to finish with 14 points. Freshman forward Julius Phillips (Philadelphia, Pa.) matched his season-high with an 11-point performance. The Griffins got a few important contributions off the bench, with sophomore forward Amir Warrick (Washington D.C.) providing 10 points, while freshman guard Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied nine rebounds, including five offensive boards.

The Griffins open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on the road against Georgian Court University at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3.
