Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/7/2019) – Entering the final stretch of the regular season, Chestnut Hill College visited local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division rival Holy Family University for this evening's competition. Unfortunately, the Tigers performed well on their home court, hitting .375 (42K-9E-88TA) and locating 10 aces in the process of defeating the Griffins in three sets; 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18). Senior outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) led the Griffins in points, totaling 11 with 10 kills on a .258 (10K-2E-31TA) hitting percentage and one of the Scarlet and Gold's three aces.
After a 9-9 stalemate, Chestnut Hill College (12-13, 9-8) struggled to slow down Holy Family University (19-8, 13-3). The Tigers outscored the Griffins 16-5 the rest of the way, gradually separating for a 25-14 win. The second set was much more competitive as the score tied as late as 20-20 with neither side leading by more than three points. But, Holy Family University stole the frame with junior outside hitter Carly Covington (Delmar, Md.) scoring three points in a 5-2 concluding run; 25-22. With a 2-0 lead, the Tigers gave the Griffins little opportunity at a comeback. They separated from the Scarlet and Gold early in the third set, achieving a 13-5 advantage before eventually winning the match with a 25-12 closing victory.
Covington led Holy Family University with 16.5 points; she scored 13 kills, three aces, and assisted on a block, while also providing the Tigers with six digs. Sophomore setter Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa.) supplied a kill, 37 assists, an ace, and seven digs, while senior libero Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) contributed three assists, an ace, and 10 digs.
Byxbee received plenty of help from senior right side
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman setter
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico). Both provided 14 assists; the former also recorded four kills, two aces, and three digs, while the latter totaled six kills and four digs.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, November 9, when they welcome Dominican College to Sorgenti Arena for a 12:00 p.m. Senior Day match.
