PHILADELPHIA (12/07/2019) – Chestnut Hill College earned its second-straight win to open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play against Goldey-Beacom College, 77-64. A season-high five Griffins finished in double figures as sophomore guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) led in scoring with 24 points, sophomore forward
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) pulled in her fourth double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) of the season, and junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) dished out an impressive nine assists.
The Lightning (0-6, 0-1) got off to a quick start, opening on a 7-0 run and leading by as many as 12 in the first quarter before the Scarlet and Gold was able to get its offense in gear. Once Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 2-0) got going, the team was tough to stop. Trailing 24-13 heading into the second quarter, the Griffins tied the game on an 18-7 run thanks to their presence from beyond the arc. They knocked down four three-pointers, including a pair from sophomore forward
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.), who made four-of-six attempts from distance in the game.
Trailing by one heading out of halftime, the Griffins made their run to take over the contest -- opening the third quarter on an 18-0 run. Sebold's impact was felt during that quarter, as she scored 10 points, dished out two assists, and tallied three steals. That was all the Griffins needed as they glided to the finish of their 13-point win.
It was almost double-double central for Chestnut Hill College. On top of Miller's 10-point, 11-rebound outing, Sebold was one assist shy of a double-double (14 points, nine assists) and Hewlett was one rebound away from a double-double (16 points, nine rebounds). Sebold also tallied a career-high five steals.
On top of Hewlett's impressive performance off the bench, the Griffins also got a double-figure outing from reserve sophomore guard
Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), as she finished with 11 points.
The Lightning were led in scoring by sophomore guard Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, Pa.), who finished with 27 points. Senior guard Jill Latanowich (Newton, Mass.) pulled in a team-high six rebounds on top of her team second-best 13 points.
The Griffins are back at home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11 as they face the University of New Haven in a non-conference clash.
