Griffins Savor Big Win Over Golden Falcons

Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/16/2019) – Shooting 41% (28-of-64) from the field and 60% (12-of-20) from three  point range, Chestnut Hill College showed no mercy to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent as they posted a 93-54 victory over Felician University. It was a close matchup in the first quarter (19-17), but the Griffins outscored the Golden Falcons 21-5 in the second quarter to set the tone for the rest of the contest. In a balanced performance, five Griffins; freshman guard Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) (10 points), freshman guard Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) (11), sophomore guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) (15), junior forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) (13), and senior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Franklin Township, N.J.) (10), finished in double figures.

Felician University (8-16, 8-7) controlled most of the first quarter, but a Crim three pointer (17-17, 0:44) and two free throws by Wildgoose (19-17, 0:02) gave Chestnut Hill College (7-15, 5-9) the edge they needed at the first-quarter break, 19-17. In the second quarter, a three point basket from freshman guard Morgan Orloski (Bethlehem, Pa.) (24-19, 7:30) was the moment the Griffins needed to launch an 11-point run that separated them from the Golden Falcons by a 32-19 (5:13) margin. Meanwhile, the Golden Falcons only produced five points during the period, leading to a 40-22 halftime differential.

The Scarlet and Gold came out blazing in the third quarter with Spratt sinking the first (43-22, 9:42) of their five three pointers in the frame. Hence, the Griffin lead reached 30 points, 59-29, with 4:10 left and 40 points, 74-34 (0:06), in the closing seconds. The fourth quarter served as garbage time, allowing the Chestnut Hill College and Felician University benches to compete until the 93-54 end.

Sophomore guard Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) was the only double digit scorer for Felician University as she offered 10 points in excess of two rebounds, an assist, and two blocks.

Wildgoose recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, but Sebold led the Griffins with 15 points. She also recorded five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Glenn (13) and Crim (11 points) combined for 24 points, while Spratt added another 10. Senior guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) totaled seven points, six rebounds, and five assists. Freshman forwards Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) and Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) were valuable contributors as well; the former chipped in eight points and nine rebounds, while the latter logged 11 rebounds.

Chestnut Hill College continues conference play on Tuesday, February 19, when they host Holy Family University in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
