Butler’s 20 Points Not Enough To Take Down The Tigers

Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/19/2019) – Freshman forward Keyon Butler's (Chester, Pa.) 20 points was not enough to secure their first conference win during tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest against Holy Family University. The Griffins only trailed the Tigers by seven points (35-42) in the first half, but it was an early seven-point run in the second half that sealed the Griffins 73-89 loss.  Senior forward Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) (16) and senior guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) (12) both added double figures as well in the matchup.

Butler led Chestnut Hill College (3-21, 0-15 CACC) and kept them afloat in the first half scoring 13 points. The two teams exchanged leads throughout the period until Holy Family University (12-11, 8-8 CACC) sunk back-to-back three pointers (33-39, 1:18; 33-42,:47) late in the frame that started the separation. Down by seven points entering the final half (35-42), the Tigers slowly chipped away from the Griffins, pushing the margin to ten points (38-48, 18:23). Not giving up, Awl made two three pointers (41-48, 17:51; 44-50,16:38) to give the Scarlet and Gold a new life that cut the deficit to just six points.  Unfortunately, Holy Family University retaliated with a seven point run that would place Chestnut Hill College in a hole that was unrecoverable.  Their opponent kept a steady lead until the final whistle, ending the contest 73-89.

Freshman guard Patrick Robinson (Chesterfield, N.J.) led Holy Family University with a double-double that included 26 points and 12 rebounds. He also added two assists and two steals.  Trailing not far behind was junior forward Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y.) with 23 points, while freshman guard Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior forward Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa.) both logged 12 points each.

Butler was one rebound shy of a double-double performance, posting nine rebounds along with his 20 points. McWade added six rebounds to his 16 points and Awl had a well-rounded all-around game with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists, and one steal.

Chestnut Hill College will celebrate their senior day on Saturday, February 23, while they take on Wilmington University at 3:00 p.m.
